AND THE LEFT WENT NUTS

Wayne D. Leeper

The left hates George Bush with a passion that has seldom been equaled.  From the day that he was declared the winner of the 2000 presidential election the left has set out to destroy both the man and his presidency.  The question  must be asked.  What is it about George Bush that has so enraged the liberals.  But first we need to consider a few facts regarding just what he has done as president.  This will help us to see clearly that it is not his accomplishments but the man himself for which they harbor so much hate.

The first noteworthy thing that he did was the selection of a cabinet.  Seldom has a presidential cabinet contained so many men and women of outstanding stature.  For his Secretary of State he selected Colon Powell, one of the most respected men, not only in the United States, but throughout the western world.  For Secretary of Defense he selected Donald Rumsfeld, one of the most brilliant minds in Washington with over thirty years experience serving in previous positions with other presidents.  For Attorney, John Ashcroft, another man with impeccable qualifications for the position.  For National Security Adviser he selected Condoleezza Rice a woman who has proven her capability in numerous capacities in both public and private life.  The list goes on but it can be simply said that this was one of the most capable group of men and women ever assembled by a president as his top advisors.

Second we need to realize that he inherited a recession from the previous administration. There is no doubt that the recession began in November of 2000.  This is not a matter of opinion but a matter of looking at the economic statistics that determine and define a recession.  The previous administration had the luxury of enjoying the good times produced by the technological and inter-net bubble.  In that regard, the bubble that had to burst was very similar to that which was enjoyed in the 1920's.  Unlike the bubble of the 1920's, when it did burst, steps were taken to ensure that we did not enter into a great depression as was the case in the 1930's.  The loss of jobs did not began under George Bush, but it did end under George Bush.  For over a year now the economy has added jobs every month.

A third factor which was very much a part of the first year of this administration was the unveiling of corporate financial scandal that rocked the confidence of the investor class.  As one by one several giants crumbled under the weight of fraud and mismanagement, thousands were thrown out of work and investors lost millions of dollars.  The entire corporate world became suspect and many companies were taken down by guilt through association.

Finally, the events of September 11, 2001, not only killed three thousand of our citizens but threw millions of others out of work.  Add to this the collapse of the financial markets all over the world, the rise of Al-Qaida as a force to be reckoned with and the problems in the Middle East which were left unsolved by the previous administration and compounded by the financial support of the government of Iraq.   Any one of these events would have taxed and strained any administration, but the combination of all of the created a challenge that few presidents in our history have faced.  His presidency was barely 200 days old when this mountain of obstacles was thrown before him.

Fast forward three years and look at the situation now.  Corporate confidence has been restored and the stock market has risen over 25% from its bottom in the fall of 2001.  The unemployment rolls are falling and new jobs are being added every month.  Some two million of the three million jobs lost as a result of 9/11 and the 2000-2002 recession have been recovered.  The tax rates have been lowered for millions of American families and home ownership is at the highest level in the history of our nation.  Interest rates are at their lowest point in 40 years and real personal income has reached an all time high.  Even the deficit, though higher than we would like, is a smaller percentage of our gross national product than at many times in the past.  Over fifty million people have been liberated from tyrannical  regimes and the terrorist organizations have bee damaged to the point that they have to satisfy themselves with attacking “soft targets.”

This is in no means a description of a failed presidency, but to the contrary, it is a tribute to the skill and devotion of our president and the able staff with which he has surrounded himself. What makes this accomplishment even more astounding is the fact that he has done it in the face of an opposition that has done everything in its power to thwart his efforts at leading the nation to economic and political prosperity, belittled him as a person, and divide the nation in every way  they could.  Like his role model, Ronald Reagan, he has succeeded in spite of the opposition. Just think what might have been accomplished if he had the support of politicians who were more interested in the welfare of the people of America than preserving their own political power and an elite media who were more interested in making the news than reporting it.

Neither the politicians or the elite media ever understood Ronald Regan, but the people of America did.  The little people who go to work during the week and go to church on Sunday.  The people who make the American experience a reality.  They work the land, man the factories, design the systems, and lead the world in initiative and creativity. The people who are devoted to their family, their children and the welfare of those around them.  The people of America who understand what it means to be an American and enjoy the blessings of this great land.  To the total surprise of the media and the liberal left, they lined the streets and roads of America by the hundreds of thousands just to see his casket as it passed, and in doing so to pay their last respects to one of the greatest presidents this nation has ever known.  Yet, like Bush, the left hated Ronald Reagan and did all they could to destroy his efforts. Again, the question must be asked, why?

The answer in the case of Bush as well as in the case of Reagan is somewhat simple.  They were quite willing to profit from what these men have done but  hate them for what they stand for.  Reagan and Bush both believe in the inherent goodness of man and that this goodness comes from a recognition that there is a God who rules over the affairs of man.  Want to get a liberal red in the face; just mention the word God and they go nuts.  That is because the idea of a God congers up a moral code of conduct which they are loathe to accept.  Yes, they will pay lip service, just as  on 9/11 when the liberal  hypocrites in congress stood on the steps of the capitol singing God Bless America then went back inside to protect abortion and advocate homosexuality and same sex marriage.

The hatred really began even before George Bush won his parties nomination for President. In one of the debates the question was asked of the candidates, “Which philosopher has had the greatest impact on your life?”  Several answers were given as the question was passed from one candidate to another.  The names of Locke, Hume, Blackstone and others were mentioned and the reason was given regarding their influence on the candidate.  When the question came around to George Bush his answer consisted of only two words; “Jesus Christ,” and the left went nuts.

By morning the liberal talk show host and the liberal media were all screaming “separation of church and state.” They immediately began to question his ability to be president because his actions might be influenced by his belief.  They considered it “unconstitutional” for a president to conduct his life and his presidency in accordance with what he understood to be the will of God. And horror upon horror if this man tried to impose his morals on the entire nation.  They had no problem with Bill Clinton saying, “Hillary and I will be praying for you,” and “God Bless America” because they knew that he was just as immoral and ungodly as they were.  But now they were confronted with a man who really did believe in God and this was more than they were willing to accept.

Then the question of embryonic stem cell research came up.  This, the left claimed, was the panacea which would open the door to the cure of numerous degenerative diseases, spinal cord injuries and even Alzheimer disease.  Never mind the fact that it involved the creation, then the destruction of human embryos or the fact that the leading scientist had reported much more favorable results from the use of umbilical cords and even adult stem cells.  Their fear was that if they admitted that the embryo was a human being in the earliest stages of development they would be forced to admit that abortion, their sacred cow, was in fact the killing of a human child.  Bush reviewed the situation, consulted the leading scientist in America and determined that the claims being made were basically incorrect.  Additionally, every scientist involved in the research stated that it offered no promise whatsoever as a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Furthermore, it was not just the research, which was completely legal, that they wanted but they wanted the taxpayers to be forced to pay for it; even those who believed it to be paramount to murder.  In what some called a “Solomon like” decision, he said that government funding would only be available for those stem cells lines that were already in existence but that the government would be restricted from financing any further destruction of human embryos, and the left went nuts.

They accused him of standing in the way of science and medical advancement.  They falsely claimed that the scientist were on the verge of medical breakthroughs and Bush was preventing thousands of people from being healed.  They have even invoked the name of Ronald Reagan as having possibly been cured of Alzheimer’s disease if the research had been allowed to continue.   What they fail to mention is that, like Bush, Ronald Reagan was also opposed to embryonic stem cell research and for the same reasons as Bush.

Then comes the question of homosexuality and same sex marriage.  The thousands of years old definition of marriage needed to be changed.  In our enlightened age the definition of marriage as being limited to one man and one woman is outdated.  Any two “loving entities” must be allowed to marry.  This, they say, is only fair.  Bush said no, supported a law limiting marriage to one man and one woman, and the left went nuts.

They refuse to admit that George Bush has been an outstanding president who has led this nation through some of the most difficult years of our existence.  They want a president who has no moral reservations and who, like Bill Clinton with the morals of an alley cat, will allow and support every form of social degradation and immorality ever conceived in the hearts of mankind.

Once again it is left to “We the People” to let our voice be heard.  If this nation and our children are to continue to be blessed by the God of our fathers we are going to have to rise up in mass, use the power of the ballot box, and refuse to let the immoral liberal left determine the destiny of this nation.  If they are allowed to appoint the judges they want to the Supreme Court our nation will enter an era of unrighteousness, greed and moral decadence, unparalleled since the fall of the Roman Empire.

If this happens it will only be because the believers in God have allowed it to happen by our indifference and apathy.

The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.
