The Issue of Homosexuality and Same Sex Marriage

A great social question now facing our nation is the Question of homosexual rights and “same sex marriage.” Does the state have the right to redefine marriage to include the union of any two living entities? The answer lies in understanding the difference between Laws of Creation and Laws of Redemption.

Our founding fathers regarded the “Laws of Creation” as those laws which predated the “Laws of Redemption.” They believed that the Laws of Creation were among those rights which were inalienable and, as such, must be secured by the government.  The “Laws of Redemption” fall outside the scope of government and within the purview of the church.  Interestingly, the issue of homosexuality and same sex marriage falls within the purview of both the state and the church.

At the creation God determined the laws that would govern His universe, both natural and moral. To this end He made observations and gave commandments by which man must adhere.

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.  (Genesis 2:18)(NKJ)

So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. (Genesis 2:20)(NKJ)

             And Adam said:

“This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my Flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.  (Genesis 2:23-24)(NKJ)

These were obviously laws of creation and within the purview of the state to regulate. Bestiality is condemned by Genesis 2:20. The one man, one woman marriage law is established by Genesis 2:23-24.

For this reason they felt compelled to enact laws against adultery, homosexuality, incest, pedophilia, polygamy, public nudity, and bestiality, as well as other forms of deviate sexual behavior. If any one of these activities is to be deemed outside the purview of the state, then all must be deemed outside the purview of the state. If the state cannot legislate concerning homosexuality, it cannot legislate concerning any other form of sexual deviation.

The issue of homosexually and same sex marriage also fall within the laws of redemption. Thus it is an activity which falls within the purview of the church as well as the state, therefore, both have the right to legislate concerning this subject. Just as the state has the right to uphold the “Laws of Creation”, the church has the right to uphold the “Laws of Redemption.” In both instances God has spoken regarding the matter.

The laws concerning homosexuality are also found among the “Laws of Redemption.” Notice the following passages.

Therefore God gave them up to uncleanness, in the lust of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves .....For even their women exchanged the natural use for that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due....who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1:24-32) (NKJ)

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived, Neither the fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites.... will inherit the kingdom of God.” (I Corinthians 6:9-10) (NKJ)

On a recent TV talk show, the host asked his guest, “Who is harmed if two ‘loving persons’ of the same sex want to get married?” Our founding fathers looked to God and found the answer to that question. It is for this reason that not only the federal government but also every state passed laws concerning forbidden sexual relationships. The logic of these laws is inescapable.

First of all those who commit these acts will be harmed because they are condemning themselves to an eternal spiritual death. Secondly, those who approve of the forbidden acts are promised the same punishment as those performing them. Finally, and most important, the people of America will be harmed because, just as God condemned and destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, He will reach a point where He is forced to, if not destroy this nation, at least remove His blessing and protection which we have enjoyed for the past two hundred, twenty-eight years.
