THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
The Supreme Court of the United States of America is empowered by our Constitution to be a citadel of the people. In massive letters engraved in stone across the entrance are the words “EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW.” For almost two hundred and fifteen years it has stood as the supreme protector of our Constitution and the rights of We the People. Sometime during the next four months the court will be called upon to render the most important decision ever rendered during its two hundred and fifteen year history. The question which it must answer will determine the future and ultimate fate of our nation. Most of us in our “golden years” will not live to see the final outcome of that decision but our children and grand-children will have to live with it for generations to come. The court must decide if the government of America is still, as Abraham Lincoln claimed, a government “Of the People, By the People, and For the People,” or has that government now perished from the earth? Has it been replaced by a government that has the power to ignore the will of the people and dictate from Washington D.C. the nature of the society in which we must live and the moral values which our country is to embrace? Do we, the people of America, still have the right to determine the type of society in which we wish to live, and to require our government to publicly acknowledge and respect the God who has guided and protected us since the pinning of the Declaration of Independence, or does that right now reside exclusively with the nine men and women who sit on the highest court of our land? Look again at the picture of the Supreme Court Building above. A couple of years ago my wife and I stood on the great set of stairs that lead to the entrance of the greatest hall of justice in the history of mankind. There is no reason to try to describe the feelings that we shared at that moment. If you have been there you already know, and if you have not there is no way that you could understand. But look again. A barrier has been placed between the court and the people looking in. The symbolism of this picture is inescapable. Notice that the people are not carrying signs and banners in support for or protest against some specific cause. They are just ordinary common folks like my wife and I that are looking to the court to protect and maintain the will of “We the People.” Are, as the picture symbolizes, We the People now denied access to the halls of justice in America? Is this now the exclusive domain of activist judges and advocate lawyers? Does the will of We the People carry any weight at all in determining the course of our nation? These questions will be answered in June when the courts determines whether the government of We the People must allow us to display the Ten Commandments and other Religious quotes and symbols on the public property owned by We the People. In a AP-Ipsos poll completed in late February it was determined that 76% of the people want the right to display religious symbols and acknowledge God on our public property. If this were the result of an election it would be proclaimed as an undeniable mandate. Is the Supreme Court of the United States of America less subject to the will of the people than the other branches of government? In June they will give us their answer to this question. In the meantime We the People must make sure that they clearly understand ours. It is imperative that every God respecting and freedom loving American contact these nine men and women as soon, and as often, as possible.
